Get To Know Jackson Rand

Name: Jackson Rand

Position: GIS planner

How long have you worked for SRPC?  One year and two months

Where did you go to college and what did you graduate with?

I went to Northeastern University and my degree is in environmental sciences.

What is your role here at SRPC?

I am the GIS Planner which means I coordinate and manage all GIS and mapping related projects.

What’s one of your favorite projects or things that you’ve done while at SRPC?

Promoting Outdoor Pop! POP! is our current project geared towards creating a data set of all existing recreation sites in the SRPC region. We are going to use this data to create a cool online resource where families and other members of the general public can find recreation sites that they haven’t been to before.  think it’s really cool project because it’s a pretty big undertaking in terms of data collection for SRPC and we are learning and using new technologies to make this project. I am really excited for how awesome our final online resource is going to be.

Share a picture of a place, or past-time that you would use to describe your “happy place.”

What’s your favorite food?

Crab rangoons – from anywhere.

Where did you grow up and one thing you love about that area?

I grew up in Bow, NH. I like that its quiet and in the woods. It was very kid friendly but still close to the city; the city being Concord.

What song would you choose to start a dance party?

I feel like the song I want to say, I’m not allowed to say – so let’s go with Toxic by Britney Spears.

What’s your favorite thing about working for SRPC?

I’m given the freedom and flexibility to do really cool GIS mapping and projects. SRPC is small, so it’s easy to be in communication with people, and we all know each other so we can easily communicate.

Name one of two movies that you could watch over and over?

don’t really watch movies. But for shows, a couple come to mind – “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Schitt’s Creek.”

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

That I have hiked all 48 of the 4,000 footers in NH.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?

My recently adopted 10-week old kitten. Name still TBD.

What’s your most used gif/emoji?

What is one thing you can’t live without?

My very first instinct is to say wool socks – I’m trying to come up with a cooler answer, but I’m kind of feeling wool socks.

Where is your top wish list travel destination?

I have three and I am not sure which one is top. Australia, New Mexico, and Alaska. I think New Mexico because I really want to see the pueblos.

Go to ice-cream flavor? Go to pizza topping?

Mint Oreo. Also, when you put a scoop of mint and strawberry togetherthat’s my favorite.

Favorite quote or song lyric?

don’t know. My first instinct is have fun, be safe. I don’t know who said that, but someone said it to me as a kid and I say it all the time now.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Sassy, fun, and adventurous.
