SUMMARY:Pathways to Promoting Outdoor Play at the NHPA Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:SRPC’s GIS planner Jackson Rand and communications and outreach planner Shayna Sylvia will be presenting at NHPA’s Annual Meeting on Dec. 3 at Fratellos Italian Grill in Manchester at 12:45 p.m. Their presentation (detailed below) will follow the business meeting from 10:30 – noon. \nPathways to Promoting Outdoor Play (Plan of the Year\, 2020) \nIn 2019\, SRPC undertook its Pathways to Play (PTP) project\, an initiative to prevent obesity in young children by increasing awareness of and access to recreation. The project included compiling and mapping a comprehensive data layer of all publicly accessible recreation sites in the region and a pilot project in the City of Somersworth. Promoting Outdoor Play was a follow up project\, which allowed staff to expand the data gathered during PTP via in-person inventories of over 340 recreation sites. This information was then used to build an interactive\, online map viewer for residents and families across the region\, and was marketed via a passport program in the\nsummer of 2021.
